Abstract

Diabetes is a major public health concern in the United States, affecting approximately 29 million individuals, with a significant portion of them remaining undiagnosed. It stands as the sixth leading cause of death, contributing to around 225,000 fatalities annually. Moreover, over 20% of Americans aged 60 and above grapple with diabetes. The two primary forms of the condition, Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, present distinct etiologies, with Type 1 resulting from autoimmune beta cell destruction and Type 2 characterized by multi-tissue insulin resistance leading to beta cell dysfunction. This abstract underscores the scale of the diabetes challenge in the United States, highlighting the need for continued research, prevention, and management efforts.
