ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY MANAGEMENT AND PERFORMANCE OF FOOD, BEVERAGES AND TOBACCO MANUFACTURING FIRMS IN ENUGU STATE, NIGERIA

Abstract
This work studied the effect of environmental sustainability management on performance of food, beverages and tobacco manufacturing firms in Enugu State, Nigeria. The specific objectives were to; ascertain the effect of ecosystem on total production quality and determine the effect of green engineering on adaptive skill acquisition. The study adopted a survey design. The population of the study was two hundred and ninety seven (297). The sample size of 297 was adopted due to smaller unite of the population. The study used convenience sampling procedure and structured questionnaire was used to select respondents. Simple regression statistical tool was employed to test two formulated hypotheses. The findings revealed ecosystem had significant positive effect on production quality of food, beverages and tobacco Manufacturing firms in Enugu State (f-value = 47.403, and p value .000<0.05) and green engineering had significant positive effect on adaptive skills acquisition of food, beverages and tobacco Manufacturing firms in Enugu State (f-value = 4.035, and p value .008<0.05). Therefore, based on the findings, researcher also concluded that environmental sustainability management had significant positive effect on performance of food, beverages and tobacco manufacturing firms in Enugu State, Nigeria. The study thus recommends that Managers of manufacturing firms should ensure that all the strict policies on ecosystem as regards to production quality are adhered to in the course of their operation while emphasis on them should be encouraged to boost performance of firms in Nigeria.
